Green – Rubbish!!!!!

There I was last Saturday morning looking forward to a nice little trip to the seaside and a casual and elegant stroll round Brighton’s trendy shops (including incidentally one dedicated entirely to the cult of the chilli-pepper – as in the very hot food condiment).

As we rolled into Brighton with the smell of the sea in our nostrils and the sound of it in our ears we were confronted by what can only be described as 1980s Beirut on a bad day! Rubbish everywhere spilling from the carcasses of overflowing dustbins, seagulls the size of rats in amongst the carnage. How disgusting I thought and who is responsible?

As it turns out the dustmen and street cleaners had been asked to take “another” large pay cut which seemed to be the last straw and caused them to go on strike. Now as a rule I have no empathy for public sector workers because in my view they have had a relatively easy ride through the stormy waters of the economy as well as generous pensions and perks so some hard steel up their behinds in my mind is fully justified BUT in this case I was overtaken by that rarest of emotions – SYMPATHY – yes indeed I felt sympathy for the strikers! They are not exactly the highest paid members of our society and inflation stops for no man, woman or beast despite whatever the headline figures may show or at least not when greedy energy companies and speculators extract their pound of flesh (a topic I have touched upon in other missives). Let alone bloody councils with their poll tax (sorry community charge) increases!

Where were the council I ask, where was Jason Kitcat their hapless leader? When I discovered that the largest party in the council was the Green party everything became clear. I’ve heard their former and current leaders speak utter piffle on a regular basis and if a man (or woman) shalt be judged by the piffle they speak then this lot couldn’t run a bath let alone anything so complex as a public convenience or even a council. Unfortunately it struck me that this was yet another example of a country of lions run by absolute cretins, people of little idea and even less common sense. Interesting also when you consider that the tax payer has spent £440m on council credit cards in the last 5 years used to buy goods and services including meals at Michelin starred restaurants, golf lessons, fact finding trips abroad AND (and this did amuse me) pedicures – all very relevant I say!

Now to be fair, Brighton and Hove Councillors and officials were not deemed as sinners in this regard but you really have to hand it to them for their total cack-handedness in the way that has left their town in a total shambles. So come on Jason Kitkat, take a break (from being an incompetent moron) and get this sorted, your town looks an utter disgrace!
