Olive Oil – Whatever next!!

I do apologize for lack of comment last week but I have to admit that I was rather up to my neck in it doing my day job and I also have to admit there was nothing in the news that particularly took my fancy. I like to dwell upon the more ridiculous eco-political aspects of modern society along with their penchant for total and utter hypocrisy and unfortunately hypocrisy of the sort that gets me excited (sad I know) was in short supply last week.

I was however mildly amused by the latest crass directive form the EU concerning olive oil of all things. ALL restaurants and cafes of that quaint and UN-corporate nature that we find around Europe particularly, will be ordered to use new olive oil containers displaying clearly from where such olive oil derives and all to protect you and me the consumer. Well I ask; do we need protecting from those inherent dangers lurking within that evil olive oil that just might not be of the quality that we think it is. That it might leap out and mug me or blow me up or attack me with yet another stealth tax of stupid piece of legislation?????

I would say that we need protection from many things. Overpaid euro – morons and their incredibly stupid and pointless directives, genuinely evil criminal gangs which operate across the borders of Europe and against which the EU and its vast bureaucracy seems powerless, the ever higher cost of employing people and thus ever reducing competitiveness of Western Europe but not olive oil surely. YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!?

But then here IS a constitution that allowed the Bosman ruling for goodness sake, where those poor little footballers got protected from the nasty clubs and their owners . . . . . so I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised should I. So come on Jonny euro-commissioner come up with directives which might actually do some good!

Au revoir readers as they say in Paris, Brussels and Strasburg.
